The story of Pandora's Box is well known: created by the gods to punish man for the folly of Prometheus and gifted with a beautiful box she was told never to open, Pandora's curiosity doomed mankind when she disobeyed and unleashed all the world's evils, locking away Hope alone in order to save it from destruction.
The story is true...but it doesn't end there.
The evil Pandora unleashed was an entity so old and so corrupt its name remains unknown. The evils of the world are a result of its very existence, a myriad of hardship and pain all existing simply because the creature, known as the Darkness, lives and breathes. To complete man's punishment, Pandora was cursed as Hope's guardian for all time. Forced to take the virtue into her very flesh, she became bound to its power and a target for the Darkness. All the magic and mysteries of the universe in all its beauty became hers to command as weapons and protect for future generations, ensuring balance in the mortal world for all time.
Enter Epimetheus: brother of Prometheus, and the Titan god of Hindsight, to whom Pandora was gifted in marriage. Enraged by the fact that the woman he loved became a pawn, punished by all of Olympus for a crime his brother committed, he bargained for her freedom with the one god who did not vote for her imprisonment: Hades.
Making a pact with the god of Death, Epimetheus sacrificed his divine soul and allowed Pandora's burden to take him over. Animated by Hope alone, he became the first Avatar: the living personification of Hope. With the power now split in two, and the promise of progeny to propagate future vessels to protect it, Pandora was freed and Hades restored the Titan's soul, but not before Epimetheus laid a curse upon the gods.
"Hear me, Olympians: this will not satisfy my fury. You sought to make a slave of my beloved, and so I take your power from you. Willingly, I make myself a slave to my family, and my children who go after. Bound are we to our own, wearing our shackles proudly, and no other master shall my people serve...not even the gods. This I vow, and this vow I shall enforce--so my love may have her life and her reward, I shall never stand in judgment. To each generation, I shall be reborn. In each generation, I shall protect my own...and for the rest of Creation, we shall protect the human race from you."
And so it was that Epimetheus served the power...as did Pandora's children on through history...
In ages past, they were the medicine men and sages of ancient human culture, the wizards and witches of myth. In the modern age, where true power is forgotten, the children of Pandora live and breathe under a historical veil of secrecy in the theatrical art of magic. Through artistry and public spectacle, they pass off real power as illusion, feats of human creativity with glimpses of the "tricks" and how they're done to perpetuate the facade.
Among them, there are those who are summoned to a higher calling: the enforcement of the curse laid by Epimetheus. Doing direct battle with the Darkness to protect the human race and allow Hope to flourish, they hide the battlefield in plain site and make the public stage their battlefield. The biggest names in the art are often the bloodiest of soldiers among the legions of the Fraternity of Light--the army fighting for life itself.
Born to Fraternity scholars and named in honor of legendary magician Channing Pollock, Channing was raised in New York City and well-versed in magic at an early age. Aside from the obvious influence of her family's legacy, Channing lived a relatively normal life. Her father worked as a history professor at NYU, while her mother served as an administrator for the New York Public Library system. Education was a sticking point at home, as was her training in the arts that were her birthright.
In this, she excelled in spades. A natural talent as a stage performer, she was also exceptionally bright when it came to understanding the mechanics of the craft. As she came into her mystical abilities, she also proved her natural talent in metamorphosis, a gift that allowed her to change the nature of the world around her, ranging from transformation to even altering the weather. Though gifted magically, as time went on she came to rely more on her technical proficiency than her power. Her excellence in stagecraft with, and sometimes over, true magic, made her a top-notch stage illusionist and garnered her several major awards by the time she was twenty.
After graduating from NYU with a major in theatrical arts, she moved to Las Vegas to pursue her career in the boy's club of stage magic. Developing an act that blended both classic and modern elements, she earned her stripes in nightclubs and bars, working her way upwards through small doses of Fraternity connection and large helpings of pure ability. By the time she pledged to the order, she had completed her first four month engagement headlining at Harrah's and was dividing her time between Los Angeles and her home in Vegas, consulting with special effects departments at three major studios between engagements.
Currently, she makes her home in Vegas, where she serves as a prominent figure in her local chapter of the Fraternity and headlines at a major Las Vegas casino, earning numerous accolades and using her act to influence humanity for the better, both onstage and off. She's well known for fraternizing with her fanbase, while the local media has taken a liking to her classic conjurer's persona.
